In this interview, Joseph Beuys reflects on various events that played a role in the elaboration of his artistic approach: simple memories from childhood, the discovery of sculpture through the work of Wilhelm Lembruck, and his studies at the Arts Academy of Düsseldorf (Kunstakademie). It then looks at the development of his symbolism of materials, the preparation of his actions as well as his relationship to the interpretations that they generate.
