General Idea has put forth, since 1968, a reflection on cultural rituals conditioned by mass media, through multiple subjects and supports. Test Tube is a corrosive cocktail that submerges the frame and the television object in a series of video effects and deviations of meaning. If they use video as their medium, it is to figure a complex portrait of the archetypal artist of the 80s and their discourse. The characters in Test Tube swallow colored mixtures, cooked up by our three mad scientists, and therefore become the consensual guinea pigs for certain cathodic experiments.
